Low Blood Pressure (Hypotension)

Low blood pressure is also called hypotension. This occurs when blood pressure becomes much less than normal. Less than 90 millimetres Hg for systolic and less than 60 millimetres Hg for diastolic is considered to be low BP.

4. Neurally mediated hypotension
(Low blood pressure due to damage to the nervous system) - This type of low blood pressure also called Shy-Drager syndrome. This rare disorder causes progressive damage to the nervous system which regulates involuntary activity such as blood pressure, heart rate, breath and digestion. It is related to hypertension while lying down.


Causes of Low Blood Pressure (Hypotension)

1. Lack of blood - Sometimes the lack of blood in the body causes low blood pressure. Due to a major injury or internal bleeding, there is a sudden loss of blood in the body, resulting in low blood pressure.

2. Weakness and lack of nutrition - Nutritional deficiency and weakness are an increased cause of low blood pressure. When there is a shortage of essential nutrients, the body is unable to make enough red blood cells to lower blood pressure.
